Digital compacts are such a craze today that just about each household has one. The popularity of digital cameras has in reality overshadowed to near extinction the employment of cameras with films. But what is it about digital cameras that make even the professional users go gaga over it? Digital cameras may not be as cheap than the standard camera but it is cost useful in the long term. Unlike standard cameras, digital cameras operate without dear films. The photographs can be stored in the user's computer, or he'll reserve it in a disc or have it broadcast in photograph paper. It is alleged to be a good investment not only as it does capture memories, but also it permits the user to save on film costs.

I took the picture with my Canon Power shot G9 camera and used Adobe photo shop trial version to crop the picture to resize it to 3.5 cms X 3.5 cms, but when I printed it at walgreens I got the picture in 3 cms X 3 cms size. Also I tried it in my printer, it comes in different sizes. Has anybody got a solution for this? Please advise.
If this is for a passport, better just let Walgreens shoot and print it, they are 1 of the official places for passport photos. Passport office is real picky about the background, when I went to their office with my Walgreens photo the gal wasn’t happy with the photo but accepted it because it was a Walgreen photo.

I have three children and I am wondering if there are any good settings I can use with this camera? Also, what are the main settings I should leave it on for daily pics? For instance the twisty button on the top says auto 1600 etc what should that be on? Any cool things to buy such as lenses? Once again I like nature pictures but mostly use this for pictures of my young children. Thanks for any advice/suggestions! :o)
great for photos of your children: get some Studio Reflectors, they come in all sizes, look for the foldable ones. the same principle as using a mirror, and lets say reflecting the sunlight onto the shadow-side of your models face… this can make for much nicer photos and can eliminate the harsh, on-camera flash. (which really, unless your taking mug shots for the cops, or photographing a crime scene - dont bother with your camera’s onboard flash.
or - Get yourself a tripod and try some star trail photos. set your Aperture to 2.8 (or lowest number it goes to) your time to 30" sec and your IS0 to 1600 (or the highest it goes to, i think its the highest) and then on a clear night away from bright city lights, point your camera straight up to the sky and get it to take a picture on a timer.
there usually is no ‘one best setting’ for all days. the trick to getting great photos is really SEEING the light on what your shooting that day, and then adjusting your camera to showcase that beautiful natural light.
photography is art, but fused with technology and numbers. so to get a high level of control over reproducing the images you want, you will need to learn how to control every dial of your camera.
it is a long journey, but make the most of it, and most of all, experiment, with every setting, in every different scenario until you can predict how they will react.
get an external flash to plug into your camera’s hotshoe and begin to read www.strobist.com under lighting 101. this opens up a whole alternate dimension of photography. the g9 is a great camera to start strobist style of lighting with.
