How do I change the shutter speed on my camera?

I have a Canon Powershot S5IS (or maybe its the S51S, the one and i look so similar!)

i'm at the beach and trying to take more crisp pictures of the waves, i think that in making the shutter speed faster i'll be able to decrease the blur of the waves crashing and instead, catch more detail. please help me !!

ps: i dont have the manual with me…
