WHICH ONE? canon powershot G9 OR canon eos digital rebel xti? HELP!?
im purchasing a new camera, and as an avid photographer id like to know which one is best.
im leaning towards the rebel
Canon XTi although the XSi is the newer model. Why? Simply because:
1) The sensor in a DSLR is as much as 15 times bigger than the sensor in the G9
2) The ability to change lenses
3) Superior image quality
If you have previously used an SLR the transition to a DSLR will be easier. If you haven’t used an SLR, photography classes would be advisable. Plan to spend some quality time READING & STUDYING the Owner’s Manual for the DSLR.
A company called The Magic Lantern has an instructional DVD for the Canon XSi as well as the XTi. It would definitely be worth having. You can order it from http://www.adorama.com

Go with the DSLR - Canon Rebel XTi.
Don’t buy it at any of these rip-off scam sites that are owned by George Sabato:

As an "avid" photographer, I don’t understand why you would even consider a P&S camera.
The XTi has a sensor that is nearly 8 times larger than the G9 and has interchangeable lenses …. there is on contest.

I own both a G9 and a DSLR. The G9 is fine in good light. However at higher ISO levels it can’t compare. However it is handy and discreet.

Anyone that chose a point and shoot over a digital SLR would be a Fool. The Digital SLR would be better in so many ways, better grip, better performance at higher ISO’s ( because the sensor is larger ), and a better all around feel with the body. .Don’t be amused by some point and shoot’s twelve megapixel sensors, it’s nothing special. Megapixels don’t determine your camera’s image quality. They have Pro- Level digital SLR’s which only have Two megapixels. You should choose the Rebel XTI, it’s hand down a better camera, here’s a side by side for you to see:
