What type of Lens and Flashes should I buy for my Canon Powershot G9?

I am new at photography but I really like it because it can capture moments in life you would have probably forgotten about. :)

I just want to know what would be best. Thanks for your answers.

The Powershop G9 is essentially a high quality point and shoot camera. You cannot swap lenses on it, although there are some add-ons. There are external flash units available for it, check the Canon site for all the info, it will help you figure out what is compatible with the G9.

What you also want to get are filters, especially UV and polarizers. These can both improve your images and act as a protector for the lens.

  1. Judd Said,

Lenses? None. Any of the adapters will lessen the quality of your photos but if you feel like you need one go for it.

Flashes? This is where it gets fun. I recommend a 580ex II. Its a very powerful flash and if you buy a few of them you can have an entire studio setup. The 580ex II doubles as a master so you can have some off camera lighting. If you put it on master mode you can have the lighting come from just one side of your photo. You can get very creative with it!

There are no lenses for P&S cameras (except for a few add-on lenses) and since your G9 has a hot-shoe it is possible to use an external flash, but you will have to call the Canon help line for their suggestions. Not all the functions found on the Canon dedicated flash units may work on the G9.

I don’t think you want the 580 it cost almost as much as your camera look into a detected metz flash there cheaper than canons and have the same features.
