Buy a ping pong (table tennis) ball or some toy plastic golf balls.

Cut out a slot and slip it over the flash.

		<description>If you have an external flash plugged into the hotshoe, diffusers are cheap and easily obtained or home made.

The built in flash would be tougher. You need to get some translucent white plastic and cover the flash. For a one time use, try a section of white trash bag or even a piece of white plastic grocery bag. 

You are trying to spread the light out and make the flash &#34;appear&#34; to come from a large diffuse source rather than a strong point source.
