Canon Powershot G9 vs. Rebel xti - differences?

I was about to purchase an xti for doing some stock photo submissions. Then, I came across info on the G9 - it appears that it does the same thing, but at a cost of a few hundred less. I want to use the lenses from my Rebel G (35 mm camera) on the new camera. I know I can do that on the xti, but can the G9 also support lenses from the Rebel G? Also, any experiences with these cameras so I know which would give better quality shots for submitting to stock photo sites? Thanks

The Powershot G9 is a fine Point-and-Shoot camera, but it cannot support changing lenses.

Overall image quality will be better from the larger sensor size on the Rebel XTi.

Even in RAW mode, you cannot expect the same crisp results from the G9. You also might find the G9's RAW mode to be too slow to be useful.

If you want to use those lenses on a budget, consider the Rebel XT (350D) instead. You can still find them new in some locales.

Hope that helps.

G9 uses a much smaller sensor than XTi. Therefore, XTi will perform much better in low light (i.e. less noise in high ISO). XTi will have shallow depth of field compared to G9. However, you need to buy another lens to cover the focal length of G9.
