   The G9 has IS, to that is good.
   The G9 also has a much larger sensor (size not just mp count which it is).
   The G9 has a WiFi option
   The G9 has the ability to shoot in RAW
   The G9 uses the state of the art Li-ion batteries.
   The S5 has a higher optical zoom 12x vs 6x.

   Unless the 12x is the most important factor I would go with the G9.

   The G9 does not have a Wi-fi option.
   You need to look at Canon's new Digital SLR (40D) if you want Wi-fi.

   But, overall the G9 is better than the S5 IS.
