Your camera has manual settings on it. so it’s possible to learn the basics. You’ll be able to learn how aperture effects your depth of field. You can take long exposures. You can also take macro photos. Get some books on basic photography. A good one is Understanding Exposure. I learned on an old rangefinder camera. Have fun with it, and you’ll know when you reached the limits of your camera and want something better.

If that is all you have for now, you can at least make a start.

There will be a few things you can’t do with it, but yours is actually a pretty decent little P&S camera.
You actually DO have some manual controls, so yes - there will be a huge amount you can learn!!!!!
Learning also includes being aware of things you can NOT do with your camera, and the reason for that.

If you learn as much as you can with your current camera, you will be in a wonderful position once you are ready to upgrade. You’ll know what you want/need and you will be a knowledgeable consumer who will make the right buying decisions.

personally, I think the best way to learn photography is through the use of a 35mm SLR

film is readily available, and so are old film bodies. with older film bodies you’ll be forced to adjust shutter speed / aperture (unless you get an automatic slr, which is cheating )

I’m on a different train of thought than most but you can ‘learn’ from the cheapest piece of crap out there.
What you learn is up to you.

You have to have a camera that is fully adjustable. Most point and shoot cameras are not.

Can you learn digital photography with any kind of digital camera?
I want to learn digital photography, but I don`t have the camera or equipment needed. All I have is a Canon Powershot A590. I was wondering if I could learn the basic skills of photography/digital photography with this camera?
