Canon Digital Pocket Cameras

High end photography on a budget.

Nov 2, 2008

I dropped the very expensive, digital camera in the water… :-(?

I have a Canon Powershot G9
It was in my pocket, the curious dog pawed at the camera strap, pulled it out of my pocket, and directly into his water bowl, what are the freaking chances…

Anyway

I immediately took it out, took the battery out, took the card out, and took a hair dryer to the camera. I dried the battery off with a towel and put it in a bowl of dry rice (?). After drying the camera for about ten minutes, I opened it up, and also put it into a bowl of dry rice (?)

Regardless of the whole rice myth or whatever

What are the chances of my camera surviving?

If you can be strong and not turn it on or insert the batteries for at least 7 days then the chances are 50/50. It takes a lot longer for the insides to dry than you think. Just set it somewhere where it is warm and dry and make sure every little door is open and memory card removed and then leave it alone for a week. 10 days is better. It takes a long time for the inside to dry.
