Digital camera for macro, and general use?
I'm looking for a digital camera. My knowledge of them is very limited, but here is what I would like:
- A Canon (Preferably)
- Between $275-$500
- I don't want it to have a steep learning curve. Simple = Better!
- It MUST be capable of shooting VERY GOOD macro pictures. I'm a nail technician, and I would be taking a lot of close-ups of peoples hands and fingernails. Thus, it must also have sharp, clear pictures, with true to life color. It must be able to take good close-ups of nail art on individual nails, as well as on the whole hand.
- Easy to carry in a pocket, or a purse? Nothing HUGE!
- Plus, I would like to use it for everyday, general purpose photography. I would like it to have a decent zoom lens?
Here is an example of what I would be using it for:

As you can see, this pic is a bit blurry. I need the cam to take better pictures than this!
Can anyone suggest a good camera for me?
Thanks!
Unfortunately you don't like a huge camera and a SLR is not for you. For example, you can buy the Canon Rebel XT with a good macro lens for about $500. However, there is a great and not expensive compact camera — the Canon Powershot A630 for abt. $270. Its pros: C
- Good noise control
- Clever analog display
- Clear help system
- Comfortable grip
- Flip out LCD monitor with wide view
- Flash exposure compensation
- Manual control
- Great movie mode
- Price about $245 - 260

As for Macro, you can buy a Canon's Macro converter under $100.
