Digital camera buying advice needed?
I currently own a Canon SD1000. It's a good camera, takes nice photos, fits easily into my pocket, has 7.1 megapixels, etc., but there are a few drawbacks, so I'm thinking about buying a new camera, if I can find one that will correct these problems:
1. the lens isn't wide enough. Ideally, I'd like to have to equivalent of a 28mm or wider (along with a tele-zoom, of course).
2. The camera doesn't perform well in dim light/dark conditions. Oh, if you put it on tripod, or brace yourself against a tree, you can get great night photos, but just try shooting hand-held shots inside, at night, or even worse, while moving, (such as on the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland)… You get blurs. I'd like to have a camera (with a faster lens and/or image stabilization) that will allow me to take sharp hand-held photos under dim conditions.
And I'd like to keep the compact pocket size, image quality, and keep the megapixels at 7 or better.
Recommendations?
You may not like my answer but you won't get good pics on a small camera like that and a wide angle lens and telephoto lens. I have a Canon rebel XTi. you can buy different lens' but they can get pretty expensive but you gain pic quality. you go from a 7.1 to a 10.1MP camera. with this camera you are able to change the shutter speed and how wide the appetur can go. I enjoy it and they are really low in price. you can buy the camera, small lens, and a telephoto lens with it for fairly cheap.

I have a Canon SD870IS and it's a wide angle that takes great pics. 3.8Xzoom is plenty with 8MP, because if I want to tele-photo it, you can crop the hell out of a full resolution pic.

Look at the Canon G9 … with the manual controls of aperture, shutter speed and ISO, along with the image stabilization, you may find what you want in a compact camcer.
Although a dslr would be your best bet.
