Can anyone suggest specific models of some DSLR’s with moderate/good picture/price?
Heya guys. I was wondering if anyone out there could suggest a good digital camera for a semi-serious hobbyist. My regular is a Canon lightning EOS rebelX 35mm SLR, which I love to death and am moderately proficient with. The only problem is, the cost of constantly buying film and processing it is getting to be a b1tch, and I can’t afford it. I considered my own dark room, but budget constraints ruled that right out. As cool as it would be to get a DSLR that renders film-level detail and general photo quality, I know there aren’t any like that for <$2,500 at the least which is ghetto.
Note: I found a 6.2mp canon rebel DSLR at a pawnshop behind the house. They wanted like, $240 for it. Good price, or no?
Anyway, I’ve composed a list of things I’d like in my next mount:
-Can be of any make (Canons are preferred, but I’ll make the change if Nikon has a better rig for a comparatively decent price)
-Must have good dynamic range (good with rendering shadows/environment lighting)
-Must be a full-sized camera (no $hitty pocket-rockets)
-Would help if it came with flash, since attachments are so expensive
-High res/photo quality a big must; Film-quality would be nice, but not imparative
-Good FPS function would be cool, but not imparative either
ALSO: Does anybody know what my 35mm would be worth? It’s like new, has no visible scratches or dents, winds perfectly, shoots, has a functioning AF drive, and doesn’t electronically malfunction. I have a 35-80mm lense, and an 80-300mm telescopic zoom lense, +cam. bag and a reprint owner’s manual. I’d like to know what it would be worth, for curiosity’s sake.
I would normally say to get a Nikon D40 as I believe for people on a budget there is no camera that gives you more for the money. but you alreadt have a canon. If you stay with a canon like the xTI you can use all of the canon lenses and accessories you already have. And the layout will be similar to what you are already used to.

I would go with a Canon if your existing lenses will fit and function on the latest Canon Rebel you only need the body and not the whole lens kit.The Canon at the pawn shop looks like a good deal especialy if your lenses fit.You could then sell one of the extra lenses on ebay or something. The net result could be you have a digital rebel for about $100 w/2 lenses if you play your cards right.

If your gut instinct is Canon, go with Canon. Usually, everyone you meet who has a Canon or Nikon went with their gut instinct.
There are some great Canon DSLR’s around right now. Among those, I’d recommend the older models. Now, don’t get me wrong, older does not mean worse. But the newest Canon DSLR’s have a huge price jump for only a little more bang.
The Canon Digital Rebel XTi is what I use, and unless you’re shooting constantly in low light situations, I’d say it’s a great camera. As soon as you get up to 1600 ISO, it gets noisy. That is pretty much the only con with this camera. It goes for about $600, a kit. (Lens + Body)
If you’re not willing to drop $600, I’d say go with the Digital Rebel XT. A little older, smaller screen, but overall, it’s the same camera. It’s 8 MP instead of 10, but there’s not really a huge quality difference. Stock lens is the same.
Good luck! Add additional details if you have any questions.

Personal experience.
If you want film quality then 6.1mp’ll do it. And if you want a damn good camera to go along with those 6.1mp, get a Nikon D40, the best entry level DSLR on the market.
Plus, of course, if you get Nikon you get to use Nikkor lenses, which are the best lenses on the market.
