Good digital camera from Canon?

I like the features of the PowerShot SD990 IS but it's too big to be pocket friendly. I like the thin profile of the PowerShot SD780 IS, but I hear it takes noisy pictures. Can someone please recommend a Canon w/ that takes a great picture yet fits nicely in one's pocket. Their naming scheme is so confusing.

You're right. There are some confusion about Canon naming scheme. By the way, if your main requirement is to get a small camera which fit nicely in your pocket, then, you would look for just the SD series. Other series like A, G, or SX are bigger.

If you would like to have a smaller version of the SD990, I would recommend the SD880. It has more optical zoom, but it has lower pixels and no viewfinder. I believe it produces less noise than the SD780 does. However, if what you like about the SD990 is the full manual mode, I'm afraid you can't find that feature in any other SD cameras.

Another suggestion is to go with the SD990. Yes, it's the biggest guy in the SD series, but it's still small compared to other cameras.

Ikelite Underwater Camera Housing for Canon Powershot G-10 Digital Camera ~Plus FREE $50.00 Gift Certificate

Ikelite Underwater Camera Housing for Canon Powershot G-10 Digital Camera ~Plus FREE $50.00 Gift Certificate

For the most discerning of underwater photographers we offer a full-featured yet affordable camera housing for the Canon Powershot G10 digital camera. This durable housing is molded of crystal clear polycarbonate for corrosion free operation up to a depth of 200ft (60m). Every camera function is accessible in this very sophisticated housing installation. Complete housing and camera weighs less than 6 pounds. Housing measures 7″ wide (10″ wide with the removable handle bar attached), 6″ high, and 6″ deep. The housing comes standard with an optical grade glass flat port which allows full use of the camera’s zoom range without vignetting. The Canon G10 features a 28mm wide angle setting, even wider than the Canon G9’s 35mm lens. Even with the shortest port possible, external wide angle conversion lenses cannot be used to any advantage. No wide angle options are currently available for this housing. The included tray and release handle offers balance and exceptional handling while providing a convenient attachment point for optional Substrobe mounting arms. Strobe arms can be released easily at the touch of a button whether above or below water. The optional Dual Handle and Tray assembly #9523.32 provides even greater stability and allows for the addition of a second Substrobe. Since so much of the light is blocked by the lens port, the camera’s built-in flash cannot be used to illuminate the subject. We recommend adding an external strobe for best results. Read on for more information on lighting options. Special conversion circuitry built in to the housing provides true Canon eTTL exposure connected to any current model Ikelite DS Substrobe. The camera controls the Substrobe’s output resulting in effortlessly perfect exposure. Ikelite DS series Substrobes are industry favorites for their warm, even coverage and lightning fast recycle time. We recommend convenient and affordable strobe with sync cord packages that provide everything you need to take advantage of
