A slim compact digital camera, but with plenty of control and at a decent price?

I currently own a Canon A620 powershot, which I like, but it's pretty chunky for taking with me on nights out etc. I'm looking for something very slim and pocket-sized, but it must have plenty of manual controls…for example, as well as the pre-set shooting modes, i'd like the option to manually change the ISO setting, shutter speed, aperture, that sort of thing. I'm no camera expert, so thought i'd ask here instead of trying to trawl through hundreds of online reviews that are often written in pretty technical language.

I've heard that there are some ok Casio cameras that might fit the bill (the Exilim range?)

I'm in the UK, and am looking for something under £100 ideally. Given the current credit crunch, i'm sure there must be some bargains out there?

I think you have a conflict of interest happening.

You need to decide which is more important to you - tiny size or features and quality - those two concepts are somewhat mutually exclusive.

How much does a Canon Digital Rebel XTI cost?

I'm 15 years old (if you wanted to know) and i'm into professional photography now and i want to get a decent camera.
Many have recommended the Canon Digital Rebel XTI so i've started to save up for it (ha ha, i don't have a casual job, i'm only saying up from the $20/wk pocket money). If you could please tell me how much it costs, it would give me an estimate of how much i have to save.
You can recommend a better camera if you want (and how it is better), i just want a camera that can zoom and instantly takes the photo as soon as you hit the capture button (not like the $300 cameras that you have to hold the button down to take the photo).
Thank you in advanced

The camera is relatively cheap $400.00 quality lenses will run you into the thousands.

Canon Powershot G9 vs. Canon EOS Rebel XTI?

Which is the better camera overall?

Canon Powershot G9 vs. Canon EOS Rebel XTI

Any experience with either, and why you though it to be better or worse, would be greatly appreciated!

Powershot is a point and shoot camera. Simple to use. Smaller.

Digital Rebel XTi is a (digital) single lens reflex (SLR) camera. You can change its lens. It's bigger.

The sensor of a point and shoot camera is almost always much smaller (there are exceptions, but doesn't apply to this model).

Smaller sensor–usually means noisier photo. There is so much room they can squeeze all those "pixels" onto a tiny space, if you know what I mean.

For an SLR, you can "expand" the system by buying more lenses, in the future. It's much more difficult to do that with a P&S. First of all–its lens does not come off and the only thing you can get is an adapter that fits in the front. One is as good as an ice cube.

If you are serious about photography, you probably want to get a dSLR. All models can be put in manual mode (which lets you set everything yourself), or you can override its settings (which is very handy by the way). Most P&S you can't do that.

p.s. I'm not referring to a rangefinder camera. One like Leica can cost much, much more than a typical dSLR.
