Which, G9 or G10 is the better of the two?

I like taking landscapes, portriats, close-ups, and action shots.

Can these cameras take excellent action shots? etc.

These cameras are the best there are this side of digital SLR's which are heavy and bulky. I have had a Canon G-7 for about 3 years and it is great. The biggest difference is the G-10 takes pix in the RAW format which is only useful if you are really into fine tuning pix into that last 10% of the capabilities of many photo editing programs.

Digital camera battery life is greatly extended if you routinely use the range finder rather than the LCD screen.

Canon G-7, 9 and 10 will accept SDHC cards which are the higher capacity cards.

All digital cameras will take landscape portraits etc. What separates cameras (and their prices) are the shooting options. For action shots the Canon G series is great when pix are shot in the continuous mode (camera fires with continuous pix for as long as you hold the exposure button) using fast cards such as the Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III.

For close ups the Canon G series has Image Stabilization which helps when you shoot without a tripod.

Frankly you cannot go wrong with any Canon G series camera - select based upon price.
